The rainwater tank and plumbing rebate is available under the Home Rebate Scheme in South Australia. A rebate of between $200.00 and up to $1,000.00 is now being offered towards the cost of purchasing and plumbing a rainwater tank into your home for uses such as toilet flushing, all cold water outlets in the laundry and for hot water supply.

ELIGIBILITY

•  All rainwater tanks need to be 1,000 litres or more and plumbed into at least one eligible fixture type (e.g. toilet cistern, all laundry cold water outlets, or hot water service).

•  Eligible homes are generally homes for which an application for development approval was lodged before 1 st July 2006 or the home was built prior to 1 st July 2006.

•  The registered owner or tenant of the property must be the applicant.

•  A rebate is generally not available for renovations and extensions as from 1 st July 2006, because most new houses and significant extensions or additions to existing homes need to include a rainwater supply as part of the building process.

AMOUNT AVAILABLE

You may be eligible for one of the following rebates:

•  Up to $800.00 to purchase a new rainwater tank and plumb it into an eligible home.

•  Up to $600.00 for plumbing into one eligible fixture type (to plumb an existing rainwater tank into an eligible home).

•  Up to $200.00 to add an additional rainwater tank or replacement rainwater tank that is already plumbed to their existing system.

The rebates listed below are in addition to the above rebates. You may apply for one of the following:

•  Up to $200.00 extra for new plumbing by a licensed plumber to supply rainwater to two or more eligible fixtures.

•  Up to $200.00 extra for a seamless automatic switching device.

APPLYING FOR A REBATE

You must obtain a signed Certificate of Compliance from a licensed plumber indicating which eligible fixture types have been plumbed in to.

You will need to provide the original receipt when claiming the rebate for the rainwater tank and switching device.

Rainwater tanks and plumbing must comply with relevant Australian Standards and any local council requirements that may apply.
